CraveOnline: You’ve gotten to do a few action hero roles. Was this a tough sell on producers or directors at first, and has it gotten easier since you did Arena and Immortals?

Kellan Lutz: Yes and no. Doing independent movies, they have the freedom and we had the freedom and some people aren’t available, some people really just think you’re the guy. When you meet on them, I know for Arena my management company was producing that one as well, so it was kind of easy to be like, “Hey, I want to do this one.” And they’re like, “Oh yeah, okay. Let’s see what your take on it is and let’s see if we can do it.” By no means did they feed it to me, but I was like, “I really like this.” It’s just all about selling yourself.

With Java Heat, it’s all about passion I guess. I want to do all the stunts but I just loved the character of Jake and what he represented and what his journey was. The whole throwback to the buddy cop movies of the ‘80s that I love, having that passion and having the directors and producers see that you have that passion. They want to work with someone, like you said there’s a whole list of actors that can probably do it, the physique and acting chops that go with it, but I would want to work with someone who’s very passionate about it, who wants to travel, who doesn’t mind leaving their home for two months to live in Asia. So there are a lot of factors that go into it but I think passion really played a big part in it.

Does Java Heat prepare you at all for Hercules?

Oh man, this one pushes me beyond. It’s a lot of work in every regard. Just more stunts and rehearsals. We’ve only had about two weeks to rehearse and I have to be an ace at riding a horse and swinging the sword. These are all things that I grew up wanting to do and it’s such a dream to be able to do it, but I’ve never been so sore in my life. You’re doing yoga and every mixed martial arts in one day. Your muscles are growing muscles that you never knew existed. It’s work but I’m loving it. It’s a good day when I can’t walk when I get home.

Hercules is the role of a lifetime, but you knew The Rock is doing a Hercules movie too. Was there any pause for you about embarking on another one?

No, no, and I love The Rock. I grew up watching wrestling. He’s such a great actor. I wish them the best. They have a great cast but the story is completely different. He’s much older and our Hercules is the man’s journey from him being a boy to a man, and it’s very real and human. Our character goes through being lovestruck and then heartbroken and then anguish and loneliness, sadness and remorse. It’s really a story about a man, a man and the journey to get back to his love. So it’s not a man with super powers. A man not understanding the strengths that he does have and he’s in denial because he doesn’t believe in gods at first and doesn’t believe that he’s the son of Zeus and just really feels rejected by who he thinks is his father. It’s just really going through the story of what a normal boy would go through and the situation that he’s forced into.

I saw a picture of The Rock’s costume and he’s unrecognizable with long hair and a beard. What is your look going to be?

You know what, I wish I had the long blonde locks. I was really fighting for that just because I always envisioned Hercules as that but we have so many fight scenes that are beyond epic. And riding a horse, if it’s not your natural hair, it’d be a lot of work and we don’t have time for that. So my look’s just, I have short hair in this. It’s very cropped and manly.

Will you have any mythological powers at all?

Well, even Renny [Harlin] himself, he’s like, “Kellan, I don’t want you getting bigger. Just get your abs to pop more.” I’m like, “All right, cool.” And I like being bigger. Even I saw Hercules as this giant guy, but the powers that he harnesses, it’s not like he’s throwing bears into the sky or really fighting off any of the monsters like Clash of the Titans or anything like that. It’s really just Gladiator pretty much.

We haven’t seen your Tarzan yet either.

Yeah, that comes out in October. I was very happy to be a part of that one and do that, another dream come true. That one is motion capture and animated, so quite different. No hair, no makeup. You’re wearing a wetsuit with a bunch of pink balls taped to you. I didn’t have to wear a loincloth which I auditioned wearing one, with my underwear pulled really high and a wig. They’re like, “This is animated and motion capture so no need for that next time you come in” and I’m like, “Really? What’s that mean?” Then I had the time of my life doing it.

Is that in the original period of Tarzan or a modern update?

It’s very modern and contemporary. It’s very up to date and just smart. It deals with the situation with being green and not ruining the earth, being eco friendly.

Even though it’s motion capture, do you get to swing on a vine?

We had to fake it. We had ropes in the studio and we had a pool, a toy alligator I had to wrestle with that they then will create and make it real, so it’s tough acting. It really is acting in the round and you really have to envision the world. There would be a pole in the middle that you had to act was like a giant branch from a tree that you had to move. They built the world it definitely wasn’t the jungle that you will see in the movie. When I was doing ADR, I was just really blown away because I remember being there and I remember playing with the alligator or just being in my treehouse. That was just a frame of a treehouse that they then create. You just sit back and you’re like, “Geez, we’ve come so far with technology and being able to create a world that’s real.”

Do you do the Tarzan call too?

Yeah, yup. That was a lot of work and we can’t share that yet.

You also have Syrup coming out. What type of character do you get to play in that?

An antagonist. I very seldom play an antagonist and that’s all about marketing and the advertising world and how sex sells. It’s the story of two companies and it’s not really the taste that matters or the presentation or what consumers might like, but how it’s sold and the idea behind it and how marketing is so important. My character is Sneaky Pete. The book that Max Barry wrote is so smart and satiric. I loved it and I loved the script that Aram [Rappaport] wrote. My character was supposed to be Japanese I believe so it was just really great to play that character and that they were able to tailor it to me. It’s fun playing a character that doesn’t say much but you have to act with your mannerisms and your facial expressions to sell a feeling. That’s what I got to do with that one. I just really loved embodying a character.

Do you have some dramatic face offs against Amber Heard?

Not dramatic but I definitely get to frustrate her with how I am presenting myself I guess. I’m sure her character just is annoyed because I am her boss and I screw with her.

na końcu wzmianka o Sharni

wywiad

What’s the craziest thing that happened on the set?
The time I asked the director [Aram Rappaport] if I could walk across the street for a foot massage at an Asian foot massage parlor and he said yes, then 10 minutes later my phone was blowing up and the [assistant directors] were looking everywhere for me. Apparently, I was in the next scene.

How often do you talk to your former “Twilight” co-stars?
I talk to almost all of them when we run into each other or are in the same cities. But Ashley Greene was and is definitely my best friend of the bunch. We had the same agent before we got the movies, so we were already friends beforehand.

OK, time for the serious questions. How do keep your abs so ab-tastic?
If I had a dollar for every time I was asked this question! Truth is I work out and do sit-ups. Boxing helps big time! I also try and train with the 8711 stunt team [the team that's worked with actors for movies such as "The Bourne Legacy" and "The Avengers"] down close to where I live in L.A. They are the best at making my body hurt from teaching me new Mixed Martial Arts moves. There are no shortcuts or secrets. I eat healthy for the most part, minus some candy now and again. I have a sweet tooth.

You’ve been cast as the lead in the upcoming remake of “Hercules” directed by Renny Harlin of “Die Hard 2″ and “Cliffhanger.” How will you step up your workout for that role?
I’ve been doing two-a-days, which is workout slang for working out twice a day, morning and late afternoon. The director doesn’t want me to get too big, so just trying to put on a little extra muscle and lean up as much as I can. And again I did some extra training with David Leitch from 8711 who’s a big stunt coordinator. He’s awesome.

How do you think Hercules would fare in a fight with the vampires from "Twilight"?
Hercules would win, hands down. He's a half-god, whereas vampires are half dead … well, really all dead.

How do you feel about your status as a hottie?
Ha. That's a funny question. I honestly don't think about it. If someone says it, it's in one ear and out the other, or if it's written somewhere, I swear my eyes jump over the sentence.

You were on "Sesame Street" this month helping Cookie Monster teach kids the word "vibrate." Was that word your idea? How difficult was it to keep a straight face during filming?
The word was not my idea, but I thought it was hilarious and added a little humor to an otherwise straightforward kids educational program. [It's] one that I grew up on, so it was a real honor to be there. And I'm glad adults got a kick out of it as well.

What's your living situation? Are you still sharing homes in Venice, California, and New York with friends, or are you and Sharni thinking of moving in together?
I'm finally living alone! As much as I've loved my roommates in the past and they're now my best of friends, I'm a big boy now and enjoy the alone time.

Here’s what the 28-year-old actor had to share:

On being part of the Twilight franchise: “When Twilight ended it was bittersweet. I was so blessed and lucky to be a part of it, that I’ll never forget a single moment. The screaming fans, the amazing directors, awesome cast and crew, all the travelling, my character, everything was amazing.”

On working with director Renny Harling for his upcoming film Hercules: “I know Renny will probably be one of the best directors I’ve ever worked with, and we get along so well that I’m sure it will be an amazing experience. He has also surrounded me with such an amazing and talented cast to bring this legendary story to life.”

On his physique: “Because of my physique I believe I am type cast a little bit. There have been times where I tell my manager I want to play something different, I want to play the underdog, or the guy who got beat up in high school. And he just laughs at me, and tells me I’ve been blessed with a strong body and to work with my strengths, and use what God gave me.”

‘Twilight’ Star Kellan Lutz in Talks to Join Sylvester Stallone in ‘Expendables 3′

Kellan Lutz, who played Emmett Cullen in "The Twilight Saga," is in early talks to join Sylvester Stallone in "The Expendables 3," an individual familiar with the Lionsgate project told TheWrap.
Lionsgate did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Australian filmmaker Patrick Hughes, who has a successful background in commercials, is directing the action-packed sequel, which Stallone is producing with Millennium Films.
According to insiders, "Expendables 3" will introduce a younger group of tech-savvy action heroes who initially clash with the older crew, though they eventually team up to save the day.
It remains unclear which surviving cast from "The Expendables 2" will join Stallone in the sequel, though action heroes Jackie Chan and Wesley Snipes have been rumored for new roles.
While Stallone has hinted on Twitter at the potential casting of Mel Gibson, TheWrap has confirmed that the "Lethal Weapon" star is not officially involved with "The Expendables 3" at the moment.
"The Expendables" films have grossed more than half a billion dollars, and the latest sequel will start shooting next month. "The Expendables 3" hits theaters Aug. 15, 2014.
Since his breakout role in the "Twilight Saga," Lutz has starred in Relativity's "Immortals" and the Michael Bay-produced remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street." He recently wrapped the title role in Renny Harlin's "Hercules 3D" and also stars in an upcoming "Tarzan" movie.
Lutz is repped by Innovative Artists, Zero Gravity Management and attorney Jeffrey Endlich.

Kellan Lutz shows off his sexy surfer body at Op! Surf For Life fashion launch

Kellan Lutz has been pictured flexing his sexy muscles for surfing brand OP and we are NOT complaining!
The hunky Twilight actor was joined by 30 Rock actress Katrina Bowden as they pretended to catch some waves in New York. Such a hard life eh?
Since our weather has gone a bit pants, we’re going to pretend we’re larking around in the sunshine with Kellan Lutz to cheer ourselves up.
The actor has recently put on 20lbs of muscle for his new flick, Hercules 3D and boy is he wearing the extra pounds well.
As the face of Op! it was only natural that Kellan was sporting some of the brand's surf wear but it would have been much more fun if he took his shirt off.
After the event, Kellan tweeted, “Thanks guys! Had a great time with @OpOceanPacific answering your questions #OpSurf4Life.”
No Kellan, thank you for brightening up our dreary day!

12 Questions for a Hot Guy: Kellan Lutz, the Face of Op

When your abs literally look like they're etched into your torso, you best believe Cosmo wants a one-on-one—interview, that is. Which is exactly what we got when we sat down with actor and co-face of Ocean Pacific (along with Katrina Bowden) Kellan Lutz at an Op event recently.
We grilled this hunk on questions from what the perfect date night is to how he gets that hottttt body.
Cosmo: What do you like most about being one of the faces of Op?

Kellan Lutz: "I was born and raised in North Dakota, so surfing seemed like another world away but Ocean Pacific was always the brand I associated with it because of all the surfboard ads I'd see. Once I moved to LA though, I finally got into surfing and wearing Op. And then when the company came to me with [representing Op], I was really excited and I think they saw that through me because it was like a dream coming to pass."
Cosmo: That's pretty cool—congrats on the gig, by the way. Speaking of board shorts and surfing, your body is ridic. What do you do to workout?
KL: "I don't like the word 'work' in workout. I'd rather fun-out [laughs], where you're doing something new and different, whether it's riding horses, doing Surf Set Fitness, taking classes, working out with a friend—not just counting down the time until your workout is over in the gym. [Specifically though] in my career I focus on action, so I like doing muay tai, jui jitsu, and boxing with the 87 eleven stunt guys in Marina del Rey—these guys are all ninjas, so as I'm exercising, I'm also being educated on new techniques that I can implement in future roles, which is good."
Cosmo: Staying on the subject of swimwear, do you prefer a one- or two-piece on a woman?
KL: "I love two-pieces, but I like when there is a sundress or a sheer cover up over it. I'd rather see more clothes on that are layered, yet still see-through instead of seeing girls just walking around in their bikinis."
Cosmo: Okay, we have to ask: are you single?
Kellan Lutz: "I've found that my personal life is best kept to myself. I like when you see couples getting married and you find yourself saying, 'I never knew they were dating,' so I don't talk about my relationships publically anymore."
Cosmo: Alright, alright, we respect that KL. So, hypothetically speaking, if you were single, what quality do you look for/love most in a woman?
KL: "Her love for life."
Cosmo: And what's a quality that you really don't like in a woman, and why?
KL: "Sarcasm, selfishness, and being a terrible communicator."
Cosmo: On the communication front, are you a big texter or do you like to call?
KL: "I'm big on communication, but since I travel a lot for work I have to try even harder to make it feel like I'm together with a loved one. So I text, I call, skype, email, and talk on the phone, which I enjoy—but I do it all."
Cosmo: What do you consider the perfect date night?
KL: "Never checking the phone once. When you're just so engrossed with the person you're with that this baby [picks up the phone] isn't a priority."
Cosmo: Moving this convo right along, what are your thoughts on marriage?
KL: "On marriage?! It's freaking awesome! I mean, I think marriage is one of the coolest things, but it's been evolving quite a bit. I've learned you've got to feel like you're married already and that nothing is going to change once you make it legal. It's just that final committment. I'm so excited to get married, I want a family—that's success to me. Aside from my career, I hold family in a very high regard."
Cosmo: Speaking of your career, what can we look forward to seeing you in next?
KL: "I just finished Hercules and I leave for Bulgaria at the end of this month for Expendables 3, so I'm really excited for all of that."
Cosmo: What's your dream role?
KL: "Hercules. That was my main dream role, but to [land] Expendables 3 and get to work with all of those iconic action stars is really amazing. I'd also love to do a Jason Bourne franchise though, too."
Cosmo: Would you ever be into a Twilight reunion sequel?
KL: "Oh yeah, I mean I love everything I've done. but Twilight opened doors for so much and it's been such a big part of my life, so definitely."
Kellan, we heart you hard. Thanks for the interview and serious eye candy above.
Want your man to look like Kellan? Pick him up some board shorts from Op here.

Kellan Lutz: It’s Not Like I Prefer to Be In My Underwear!

We’re easily distracted and can get “over” trends pretty quickly, but there’s one thing we know we’ll never get sick of: Seeing Kellan Lutz shirtless.
In N.Y.C. with Katrina Bowden to promote their new campaign for Ocean Pacific’s swimwear line on Tuesday, the model-turned-actor worked his fab smile (and even more impressive biceps) while modeling the brand’s board shorts on surfboards.
RELATED PHOTOS: See even more sexy, shirtless dudes in their ad campaigns!
His favorite pair? “These Surf and Turfs are my favorite … I was working in Bulgaria for Herculesand I [was] just set with these. You never knew if it was gonna rain or not, and I’d be fight training and they’d dry [quickly] when they got sweaty.”
Though the star is constantly cast for body-baring gigs such as Hercules, Tarzan and Calvin Klein, the Twilight hunk says he’d rather not always be so exposed.

When asked what his favorite shirtless ad campaign was, he laughed, “[I prefer] more clothes. It’s not like I prefer to be naked or in my underwear!”
And apparently his philosophy extends to girls as well. “Leaving more to the imagination’s always better. There are girls walking in bikinis with one of those see-through white tops or button-downs. It’s very angelic, I like the way fabrics move in the wind.”
A flip-flops kind of guy himself, the laid-back actor looks for girls who are equally low maintenance. “I was just at the Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake concert in L.A. … [and] you notice all these girls stumbling to walk [in heels] and I’m like, ‘Why? You’re just gonna have a terrible time here. Who are you trying to impress?’ Living by the beach I see so many girls in flip flops and they’re just loving life.”

Wszystko w tajemnicy

“Twilight” star Kellan Lutz says his casual knit line Abbot + Main is all about comfort, not about being fashion-forward.

The 28-year-old actor recently unveiled the pre-spring 2014 collection of clothing line in Las Vegas, reported Women’s Wear Daily.

“It’s all about comfort. We’re not this fashionista brand,” Lutz said.

Abbot + Main has also branched out into children clothing and Lutz‘s business partner, designer Danny Guez, revealed they were going to incorporate materials like chambray and twill into next season’s looks.

“You have to evolve with the business, but stay true to who you are,” Lutz said.

The actor set up the casual clothing company 2011, naming it after an intersection in his old neighborhood of Venice Beach, California.

His inspiration came from his own experience as a teen model, which gave him access to top designers and photographers from the age of 14.

Could Kellan Lutz be entering the footwear business? The actor-turned-designer co-founded Abbot & Main, a casual knitwear brand, and told Spy he wants to add footwear to the label within the next 12 to 18 months. “I want to take my time and do it right,” Lutz said. “We want to stay with the Venice Beach feel [with our entire line].” Aside from working on his budding fashion line, the actor will appear with some big-name action stars in his next movie. “I’m headed to Bulgaria to do ‘Expendables 3,”’ he said of the film that also features Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Wesley Snipes. “It’s going to be fun to get to work with all those guys,” Lutz said. “I’ve been very blessed.”

Kellan Lutz in talks to play Gabriel in Passion prequel?

Kellan Lutz is in talks to play Gabriel in “Mary, Mother of Christ” for Australian director Alister Grierson (“Sanctum”) and Stealth Media, an oft-reliable tipster tells Moviehole.

The biblical epic, which Sir Ben Kingsley, Sir Peter O’Toole and Julia Ormond are also attached to, has been described in the past as somewhat of a prequel to Mel Gibson’s “Passion of the Christ”.

The film chronicles the journey of Mary (Rush), mother to Jesus, and her plight to keep her offspring safe from the ruthless and powerful Herod the Great (Kingsley). Joseph, Mary’s soul mate, devotes himself to being full-time protector of the twosome.

Lutz, currently working with another Aussie director Patrick Hughes on “Expendables 3″, would play the Archangel Gabriel.

”The film has had a few stops and starts over the past couple of years but looks to now be on track for a 2014 release”, we’re told.

Lutz’s other credits include the “Twilight” series, “Immortals”, “Java Heat”, “Syrup” and “Hercules 3D”.

We’ll wait for official confirmation before considering this a lock, but sounds like a rather ambitious project with an equally ambitious cast.

The Great Denim Challenge: Own a pair of Kellan’s Jeans

Blue Jeans Go Green™ (formerly Cotton From Blue to Green™) today announced a unique auction designed to raise awareness about textile recycling and to help the program collect its one-millionth piece of denim. Thirteen celebrities, including Kellan Lutz, Hayden Panettiere, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, Britney Spears, Ryan Phillippe, Darren Criss and more, have each signed and contributed a pair of jeans for “The Great Denim Challenge,” an online auction in which denim is the currency. The bidding concludes on November 3rd.
Cotton Incorporated will host a media event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, to celebrate the millionth pair milestone.
